Then, the second train — a speeding, unstoppable force — slammed into the wreckage. Rescue was slow. Lives were lost. And the truth bega
They never saw it coming. At 3:40 a.m., most passengers aboard the Millat Express were asleep, cradled by the rhythmic sway of the train, trusting the tracks beneath them. In a violent instant, that trust shattered. Several coaches tore from the rails near Ghotki, overturning and spilling onto the adjacent line, trapping men, women, and children in a tangle of steel and darkness. Before they could even process what had happened, a far worse terror was racing toward them.
The Sir Syed Express, unaware of the carnage ahead, thundered forward at full speed. It plowed into the derailed coaches with devastating force, crushing compartments already filled with the injured and disoriented. More than 1,100 people were caught in the nightmare. With limited equipment and fading hope, rescuers clawed through mangled metal for days. Sixty-five lives were confirmed lost, their final journey becoming a stark indictment of fragile infrastructure, ignored warnings, and a system that failed them when they were most helpless.
