Dolly Parton’s estate has confirmed that the country music icon died following a brief battle with cancer. A spokesperson confirmed the cause of death to The New York Times, while a representative also shared a statement with People about the singer’s final moments.
“After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” the statement said. Officials have not disclosed what type of cancer Parton had been diagnosed with.
Before the announcement, TMZ had reported that Parton was hospitalized early Friday while dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues. It remains unclear whether those health problems were connected to her cancer diagnosis.
